Our Story
Built Around
People, Not Policies
Khwan Retreat began with one simple idea โ that the later years of life deserve the same attention and care as any other.
โ Back to HomeWho We Are
A Community With Roots in Thai Countryside Life
Khwan Retreat was established in the Pak Chong district of Nakhon Ratchasima โ a region known for its cooler highland air, organic farms, and the unhurried rhythms of rural Thailand. The founders chose this location deliberately: not for convenience, but for what it offers to those who live here.
The name Khwan (เธเธงเธฑเธ) refers to the Thai concept of spiritual wellbeing โ the sense of being at ease in one's own life. It was the right word for what we hoped to build: a place where older adults could feel genuinely at home, without the pressures of managing a household alone or the isolation that can come with it.
Over the years, Khwan Retreat has grown steadily โ not through rapid expansion, but through word of mouth. Families who visited on behalf of a parent came back with their parent. Residents referred friends. The community grew the way good things often do โ quietly, and because it worked.

Mission & Values
What Guides Us Every Day
Dignity in Every Detail
Residents are not managed โ they are known. Each person brings their own history, preferences, and pace of life, and we try to honour that in how we run the community.
Rooted in Place
We source food locally, engage the surrounding community, and encourage residents to remain connected to the land and culture of northern Nakhon Ratchasima.
Open Communication
We keep families informed without overwhelming them. Monthly updates, open visiting, and direct access to staff are part of how we build trust.
The Team
People You'll Come to Know Well
Our team is small by design. A smaller, stable group means residents know who they're talking to โ and staff know who they're caring for.
Praphai Pornprasert
Community Director
With a background in community social work across northern Thailand, Praphai oversees daily operations and serves as the primary point of contact for residents and families.
Supawat Thipayarat
Head of Activities & Wellbeing
Supawat coordinates the community's programme of activities โ from morning stretching and cooking demonstrations to seasonal festivals and local market outings.
Natnicha Wongsiri
Head Chef & Nutrition Coordinator
Natnicha leads the kitchen team, planning seasonal menus with produce sourced from local farms and growers. She adapts meals to individual preferences and dietary considerations.
Standards & Practices
How We Maintain the Quality of Community Life
Regular Resident Reviews
Every three months, we sit down with each resident (and family if they wish) to review how things are going and whether any adjustments would help.
Nutritional Standards
Menus are planned to provide balanced, wholesome nutrition. Dietary needs โ whether for health or preference โ are accommodated as standard practice.
Privacy & Personal Data
Resident information is held securely and shared only with relevant staff. We follow Thailand's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) in all data practices.
Staff Background & Training
All staff complete orientation training before working directly with residents. Ongoing training sessions address communication, elder care, and emergency procedures.
Safety & Emergency Protocols
The community maintains first-aid equipment, emergency contact procedures, and a relationship with the nearest hospital in Pak Chong for situations requiring professional care.
Registered & Compliant
Khwan Retreat operates in accordance with Thailand's Department of Older Persons (DOP) guidelines for senior residential communities and non-medical care settings.
Senior Living in Nakhon Ratchasima
Pak Chong, the district where Khwan Retreat is located, sits at the gateway to Khao Yai National Park โ one of Thailand's most celebrated natural areas. The climate here is cooler and less humid than Bangkok or coastal regions, making it a setting that many older adults find genuinely comfortable for daily life.
The community draws residents from across Thailand, as well as from among the expatriate communities living in the country. Some come seeking a rural alternative to city life; others are looking for structured daily support while preserving their independence. Khwan Retreat is designed to work well for both.
Non-medical senior living โ sometimes called assisted independent living โ fills an important gap between private home life and medical residential care. Khwan Retreat occupies this space thoughtfully: providing consistent daily support, social engagement, and the reassurance of a caring community, without the clinical character of a care facility.
